The Ski Sweater – Fugly or Fabulous?

Some may call the ski sweater the “original ugly sweater”. Before the bedazzled doodad covered ugly sweaters we think of now when we think “ugly Christmas sweater”, back in the 40s-70s the ski sweater WAS the “Christmas sweater”.

Popular designs in ski sweaters include Nordic and Fair Isle designs throughout the sweater, or just along the yoke.  Sometimes there are reindeer (the humble beginnings of the modern “ugly Christmas sweater”?) or moose.  Usually snowflakes.

Traditionally done in just 2 or 3 colors because of the difficulty of knitting a multi-color pattern, modern ski sweaters devised on machines can sport a ton of colors.
